We provide solutions related to the health and well being of children through our Ronald McDonald House, and our Ronald McDonald Family Room
Many families travel far from home to get the specialized medical treatment they need for their seriously ill or injured children. The treatment may last a day, a month, or even longer. It’s a long time to be away from home, or to divide a family. For children facing a serious medical crisis, nothing seems scarier than not having their mom and dad close by for love and support.
Ronald McDonald House allows families to stay close by their hospitalized child. Our House is built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on healing their child – not where they can afford to stay, where they will get their next meal or where they will lay their head at night to rest. By staying at a Ronald McDonald House, parents also can better communicate with their child’s medical team and keep up with complicated treatment plans when needed. They can just focus on the health of their child.
The Ronald McDonald Family Room is a place of respite and is just steps away from your child’s hospital bed. In the Family Room, families will find a comfortable place to relax, food, personal care items and laundry facilities. Private showers and a quiet room are located nearby.
Watch TV, read a book, work on a puzzle, or just relax. There is no fee to visit the Family Room.
The Ronald McDonald Family Room is located inside Wesley Children’s Hospital in Building 1 on the 5th Floor. The room is situated between the Pediatric and Pediatric Intensive Care Units. The daily hours of operation for the Family Room are Monday-friday from 9am-1pm. Depending if we have a trained volunteer or not the Family Room may be opened for more hours.
Our Ronald McDonald Hospitality Cart Program provides bedside amenities and comfort to parents and other caregivers while they remain with their hospitalized child.
Several times a week volunteers make rounds in the Pediatric and Pediatric Intensive Care units with the hospitality cart to provide items of care and comfort to the parents and siblings of hospitalized kids. The cart is filled with complimentary breakfast items, snacks, and coffee.
For parents and other caregivers who are reluctant to leave their critically ill or injured child, the bright and cheerful cart is a welcome sight. The friendly face of the volunteer with the cart reminds families that RMHC Wichita is there to provide comfort during a difficult time.
